History of physiotherapy?
Physical therapy as a profession first developed thousands of years ago. It is one of the specializations that humans have discovered and performed since 3000 BC when Chinese doctors employed massage and therapy.
Nowadays, Asians, in general, are considered the most proficient people in the various fields of physical therapy. In 460 BC, professional doctors such as Hippocrates and Galen were among the first to use physical therapy, massage, manual treatment methods, and hydrotherapy, according to several medical research.
The role of Arabs in physical therapy cannot be neglected. Arab doctors supported the spread of this type of therapy, known as folk medicine, which began with cupping and ended with the use of massage to treat a variety of diseases.
Physical therapy was first recognized as a medical profession in 1894 AD when a group of British nurses established the Society for Physiotherapy, which was known as the Physiotherapy Society (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy). Due to the rising occurrence of spinal cord injuries in orthopedic hospitals throughout World war ii —, this profession saw fast expansion, putting the physiotherapy profession in front of significant obstacles for research, experimentation, and advancement in methods and tools.
