Dr. Ihsan Dogramashi, Honorary President of Hacettepe University, founded the university's first physical therapy and rehabilitation college in 1961. It was the only college for 25 years until being joined by several other universities, including Istanbul University in 1986, 9 Eylul University in 1993, Pamukkale University in 1995, Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University in 1996, and Başkent University in 1998.

Today, the number of Turkish colleges offering physiotherapy degrees has steadily increased to over 52, with over 8,000 physiotherapists graduating since 1969. These students are working at Turkish hospitals and medical institutions, as well as in other countries.

The duration of the study of physiotherapy and rehabilitation in Turkish universities is 4 years. If the student did not acquire a (Turkish) language certificate while studying this major, the period will be extended to another year which is known as a “language preparatory year”.

What are the conditions for studying physiotherapy and rehabilitation in Turkey?

Admission to Public Turkish Universities depends on passing the “Turkish Yös” test, or the “American SAT” test, in addition to providing a high school transcript with a minimum of grades that varies from one university to another. They also require language proficiency proof or applying in a language preparatory year. 

In private universities in Turkey, the conditions for studying physiotherapy and rehabilitation are providing a high school diploma with a minimum grade average of 50% and a language proficiency proof (if any).

When choosing English as a language of study, it is required to have a Tofel certificate. If you choose to study in Turkish, you must provide a Tömer certificate.

What is the required grade to study physiotherapy and rehabilitation in Turkey?

Some universities require having a certain grade average. However, universities require a higher average when applying for scholarships, while private universities DO NOT require high grades in the high school transcript.

Is it difficult to study physiotherapy and rehabilitation in Turkey?

Studying physical therapy and rehabilitation in Turkey is not difficult for people who have the passion and patience to succeed.
