Study of dentistry in Turkey and its advantages
Turkey's first dental college was established in 1908 by Education Minister Emerullah Effendi, bringing the total number of colleges in 2002 to 18, however, this number has more than doubled in the previous 15 years to 84 across Turkey.
Dental education in Turkey at Turkish private institutions is one of the most desirable medical possibilities for many students. Particularly because this specialty has developed to a high level of development and has experienced a significant qualitative shift in recent years.
One of the most significant advantages of studying dentistry in Turkey is the emphasis on specialization. This is demonstrated by an increase in the number of institutions specializing in this field, as well as an increase in the number of laboratories in dental colleges and efforts to improve them to train a new generation of students.
How many years of dental study and what are dental courses?
In Turkey, studying dental specialty takes 5 years. If the student did not acquire a (Turkish) language certificate while studying this major, the period will be extended to another year which is known as a “language preparatory year”.
In the first and second years, students study basic sciences including biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, as well as basic medical sciences like anatomy and physiology.
Students begin getting dental materials in the third year, which rely mostly on these basic sciences, such as reconstructive dental treatment, compensating dental treatment, health sciences and computer applications, and radiation medicine for the mouth and teeth.
After that, the student progresses to the practical stage in the last years of his or her studies at the college of dentistry. He works in clinics and labs that the institution provides to students to prepare them for professional life.

They also require language proficiency proof or applying in a language preparatory year.
In private universities in Turkey, the conditions for studying dentistry are providing a high school diploma with a minimum grade average of 75% and a language proficiency proof (if any).

Some universities require having a certain grade average, usually 90% and above. However, some universities require a higher average when applying for scholarships, while private universities do NOT require high grades in the high school transcript.
